A day in the life of a Senior Copywriter
Who:
LEELA ALVARES
What:
Senior Copywriter, Classic Partnership Advertising.
Describe a typical working day:
6 am to 8:00am
My most-creative time of day. I write, dream, plan, sip green tea, cook, listen to classical music and unclutter my mind.
9:00am
Get into work, make my coffee and sip on it while checking mails. Then, plow into the 'job bags' or briefs lying on my desk. All briefs have to be entered into the system in the morning UNLESS it's an emergency. Except for a minor 'emergency' or two, it's a orderly system.
10.00am
First job is a radio spot for a Sale. Three options required. How do you say 'Sale' and 'Hurry' in three different ways? Put on my headphones, turn on the music and start to sweat...
11:00am
One sale spot down, two more to go... Also, have to revise copy on another job, sign artworks, think of brand names, brainstorm on a new campaign with a deadline called 'yesterday'. Time for www.distraction.com!
12:00pm
Inspiration strikes. Finish off the most urgent jobs. Then, sit with art director to brainstorm on the campaign.
1:00pm
Everything stops at lunch time in this food-loving department. Folks with packed lunches make their way to the microwave. The others hover around to inspect and taste. Post-lunch it's time to read a book or doze on the bean bag.
2:00pm
Meeting in the conference room. It's a pitch for a new client in Saudi. The brief - 'Come up with a winning idea'.
4:00pm
Call from Servicing. Client has reverted on the Sale radio spot. They like all three and want to combine it into one. Sigh.
